The Word made flesh

"Christ is the human face of God. Jesus is the autobiography of God. In Christ, God was spelling himself out, expressing himself. Jesus was the audible, visible Word who expressed the heart of the inaudible, invisible God."
- F. Dale Brunner from Theology, Notes, and News - October 1999

"The first verb Mark used to describe Jesus' action is "came." Jesus came to be with us. God's first move is to be among us - Immanuel, God is with us. God comes to us long before we come to God. We may think we are in pursuit of God, but in reality we are only responding to a God who has been pursuing us."
- Embracing the Love of God by James Bryan Smith

"This Word which created the world, this reason which controls the order of the world, has become a person and with our own eyes we saw Him (John 1:14)."
- The Gospel of John by William Barclay

"While God does not ask any of us to bring Christ into the world as literally as did Mary, God calls each of us to become a Godbearer through whom God may enter the world again and again."
- The Godbearing Life by Kenda Creasy Dean and Ron Foster

Remembering that Love came down, and enjoying this video of the Christmas Story as told by the children of St. Paul's Church:

  1. I saw that video for the first time last week. It is now my most favorite Christmas video of all time. Charlie Brown still holds first place for favorite Christmas movie, but this cute retelling makes me laugh and smile and cry every time. I love the wise man's gift, tumbling down the hill, and the star, and the donkey, and the innkeepers and...well...the whole thing!
